Unit 6 was about professional development. Before going abroad to work in another country it is important to do research about cultural issues such as greetings, etiquette, cultural norms, etc. Politics and social opinions should be avoided and dress code should be carefully observed. It's best to know what city you will work in and if it is one of the major cities in the country before signing a contract. Several websites are useful for finding employment including: ITTT, Dave's ESL Café, ESL Job Finder, and TEFL.com. Teachers should also ask many questions to the employer before starting work (which can be found on pages 5-6). The cover letter and resume should have some basic information such as full name, place of birth, phone number, e-mail address, current address, nationality, marital status, teaching experience, and qualifications. Qualifications and employment history should be in reverse chronological order (with most recent dates first). Overall, unit 6 has some very useful resources for job employment and great questions to ask potential employers. There is also a sample resume and cover letter for reference.
