This unit broke down the different types of roles a teacher can take on in order to be successful in the classroom. In order to be an effective teacher you must be able to differentiate which role to take on in any situation. Depending on the group of learners age and current knowledge of the language, you must be sensitive to their needs and that will help you in the classroom. A young learner with little knowledge can be fun because they can learn through playing games and singing songs. On the other hand, an older learner with previous learning experience and a better knowledge of a language can be seen as more difficult. This is due to many reasons, the older learner has already concluded what learning style they prefer and are generally more shy to make mistakes and speak up in class. With that being said, an older learner can be seen as positive as it can lead to more in depth discussions in class and is easier for teachers to create a rapport. Overall, this unit discussed the different types of roles a teacher can take on as well as the different types of learners a teacher can encounter while teaching another language.
