This lesson gave me insights on the kinds of materials that can be used in an EFL lesson. In my experience as a teacher, I agree with all of the statements mentioned in this unit regarding choosing course books. It is important for the teacher to be sensitive about which activities she thinks will be helpful for her group as well as the activities that won't. Creativity is also key, therefore supplementary materials will also be beneficial for the non-artistic teacher in making created materials for her lessons. Knowing the students (their levels and learning styles) intimately will allow the teacher to carefully evaluate what kinds of lessons need supplementary materials/activities. Delving into research about the specific problems that your students face is a good way of enhancing the activities included in the course book. Carefully evaluating course books is also an important step to determine if it is worth using, or in the students' case, buying. Price is an important factor, so teachers should look deeper into the book's content and the content's relevance to the students in recommending a particular book for a class.
