This unit provides an overview of the different reasons for testing and evaluation along with the major types of tests the students may take. Placement tests help identify which group the student is ready to begin learning with. Diagnostic tests are used to separate what the students know from what they don't know. Progress assessments are used throughout the course to determine if students are retaining what is being taught. Achievement tests are typically internal tests that mark progress to the next level. Practice tests are helpful in preparing for external exams. External exams can be used to show English proficiency for the purposes of employment, attendance at English speaking Universities, or citizenship in English speaking countries.
