A good teacher is kind, patient, entertaining, knowledgeable, and cares about students. These factors help the teacher build rapport with their students. Building rapport makes it easier to identify student weaknesses, makes feedback and error correction easier to accomplish, and increases student motivation. I learned that need to work on improving my ability to entertain students and build rapport with them so that I can better teach them. There are many different roles that a teacher can fill. A teacher must be able to switch roles to fit the class conditions and add variety to their teaching style. I learned that my style mostly fits the prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, and modeling roles. I need to improve my manager, organizer, and assessor skills. Adult learners and young learners have different motivators and different abilities. A teacher must be able to adapt to their learners and utilize the roles most useful in teaching their audience. I teach young learners from beginner to pre-intermediate, so I learned more about their abilities and motivation from this unit and can apply that to my class instruction.
