Unit 10 provides two example videos of class lessons. The first video was clearly showing what not to do as a teacher. The teacher did not engage the students at the beginning of the lesson, instead, he stated that the lesson was \"really easy and anyone can do this.\" He did not elicit the students effectively, nor did he use and visual aids for vocabulary understanding. Students worked individually the entire time. He was not organized and made faces when answers were wrong. He did not allow students much talk time and did not give any time for feedback. The second video showed an effective lesson. The lesson started with a friendly smile and introductions. The teacher learned the students names and had them put name cards on their desks. The lesson followed the Engage, Study, Activate pattern. The teacher used visual aids and mime to elicit vocabulary from the students. He also used drilling. The students worked in pairs and had a lot of opportunity for talk time. The teacher also used the board for examples and explanations. Even though the activate stage could have gone better, the lesson was overall effective.
