The English learner class is a heterogenous group populated by young and older students. If the course is sponsored by a corporation some of the students may be less motivated as it is a requirement for them that may or may not eat into personal time to attend the class. Also the students may be tired after working their normal shifts so the instructor should consider this when planning course loads, homework or student evaluations. If the class is comprised of juveniles, they may be easier to motivate. They tend to learn language skills more easily as they have been taught by their own parents in their native language for some time. The instructor should have multiple techniques for instruction at the ready as the young learners have less of an attention span than adults and may be more prone to boredom. If the course content is specifically targeted towards a special interest group then the instructor may elicit relevant vocabulary and other authentic material the students may be using in their specific settings. The instructor should offer a needs analysis in order to provide more useful material the students can incorporate.
