The first lesson is equally important for teacher and for students. During it the teacher should get as much as possible information about student's interests, needs and expectation about English language learning. There a number of troubles the teacher may face dealing with different groups. The biggest one is that the students have different levels within a group. For dealing with this the teacher should use different materials or different tasks for stronger and weaker students, and also may pair them with each other. Large classes makes teaching more general then individual, so the teacher may use the worksheets, pair and group work, choral repetition to engage all the students. The best way to improve English is avoiding the use of mother tongue during the classroom activities. The teacher should explain and respond only in English even if he or she can speak the students' mother tongues. If there are reluctant students in the class, the teacher should use pair work, role-playing in order to create safe place atmosphere for such students and tape recording and controlled practice in order to have an opportunity to check them.
