Teach English in Chenghuang Zhen - Yulin Shi
In this lesson I learnt about the ESA(engage, Study, Activate) process which is the main process used by new teachers. It is an important tool for structuring a lesson and that the way you structure the lesson using this process is dependant on the types of students you have, their language ability and of course what works for you as a teacher. I learnt that letting students finish their task before correcting them on any problems they made is sometimes important as it allows them to focus on the task at hand without getting distracted and you can then work on the mistakes and errors together. Getting Students involved is important as it helps keeps them engaged and focused on the lessons. I learnt that using elicitation is one of the most useful techniques to achieve this as it gets them to think about a question even if they don't know the answer, and then think about possible answers. For example writing down a question and leaving the word they need to discover blank so they have to think of possible answers. These techniques help the students learn but also are used to show the teacher what the student does or does not know.
