Unit 9 helps us understand the differences in the use of course books, as well as authentic and created material, in the classroom. We are shown how to adapt all of them to the level of the students we are teaching and to use the materials creatively to motivate and interest them. Course books are helpful because they are tried and tested and offer continuity and progression. They are a great help to the inexperienced teacher. Authentic and created materials are used as a supplement to the course books. They are generally more topical and can be geared to the interests of your class. They can therefore create more motivation and confidence in your students.
