Receptive skills are an essential part of learning. These skills allow a student to think critically and utilize their resources to deduce meaning and content. Further, much of this critical thinking in difficult for teachers to 'see' without proper comprehension tools/reviews/tests. Further, I can see learning disabilities playing a role in using this skill in the classroom. If students do not self-disclose (or if the information isn't available in student records), there is a potential to discourage students from learning unknowingly. For this, and other reasons, teachers should balance multiple skills in the classroom.
