This unit provided clear definitions and example of the roles and motivations of teachers and learners. I found it helpful to learn the different roles that teachers play in different parts of a lesson. As a teacher, it is important to act as an organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource, model, and observer in addition to being a manager. Adult students are often self-motivated by financial or other goals, but young learners may lack such internal motivation and therefore require more encouragement from the teacher. Good teachers have good students, and it is important to motivate and encourage students.
