In this unit we have looked at how best to introduce new language, whether that is vocabulary or grammar structure. We have seen that with vocabulary there is often no 'set' vocabulary for each language level (unlike grammar), but that vocabulary to be taught can be dependent upon other factors such as appropriacy to the group, frequency of use and appropriacy to the task. We've looked at language functions and how these different from vocabulary and grammar, and activities that can be used to support student acquisition of new language in all phases of ESA style classes including arrow, boomerang and patchwork style classes.
