This section overviews the usages of past tenses in different forms: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous to refer to different states of time. There are many similarities and patterns to present tenses but the main difference being that these events refer to past actions, or actions that have started in the past and continued into the present. Past simple refers to definitive moments in the past, past continuous to developments or interuptions, past perfect to past past events, and past perfect continuous to moments beginning in past and continuing up until the present moment we are referring to.
