This unit discussed the two productive skills: writing and speaking. These are both skills that must come from the student and therefore must be prompted by the instructor. Two ways to teach these skills is to focus on fluency or accuracy. In general, it is best to focus on accuracy during the study phase of the lesson and fluency on the activate phase of the lesson. Accuracy ensures that the student know how to produce correct English while fluency allows the student to be creative with what types of subjects they discuss in English. One way to prompt student interest in producing work is to engage them in activities and games.
