This unit covered the teaching of pronunciation and phonology. Some techniques for indicating and teaching intonation include nonsense words, gesture, humming, and singing. Some techniques for indicating and teaching stress include contrastive stress, gesture, choral work, and stress marks. It's important to go over and explain sound joining and linked speech, as this will help students sound more natural when they speak English. I feel like this was the hardest unit, and also the unit from which I learned the most. The phonemic alphabet and symbols were a bit tricky to pick up, but easy to read as soon as the skill was acquired.
