I have learned about teaching special groups. Discussions about teaching beginners, individual students, children, and English for specific purposes (ESP). Beginners are said to fall into five categories, the absolute, the false, the adult, the young, and the beginner without Roman alphabet. Methodology and techniques of teaching beginners were also learned. Secondly, teaching individual students and suitable activities for 1-1 lessons were discussed. Teaching children in the classroom, do's and don'ts for teaching children, and the importance of class discipline/management was discussed, what the teacher can manage and that behavior which the teacher can do less about it. Lastly, I learned about teaching business English (ESP, its importance and advantages and disadvantages. The importance of conducting a need analysis using a questionnaire before stating your lessons to identify their needs and to plan for a course. Needs negotiation to be also conducted in the day 1 lesson plan and the importance of giving rationale of conducting it as important in order to establish priorities for a group. A sample of a needs analysis plan was learned and things to consider when conducting needs analysis. I also learned about the monolingual class (students from the same home country) and the multilingual class (students from different nationalities, the advantages and disadvantages of teaching each group and the importance and techniques of avoiding the use of the mother tongue in the classroom.
