Teach English in ChunwAn Zhen - Yangjiang Shi
The fifth unit was about managing classes. When reading through the materials I felt like most of it was common sense. Things such as, when problem behaviour occurs, stay calm, never shout, etc. These things seem pretty normal to me. Or when teaching, make sure you're not always standing in front of the room but also have the students work in pairs or groups, walk around. It is good to read through this unit though and read all the different options there are. As 'normal' as I thought this unit was, I found the test questions a bit more difficult. Some questions, in my opinion, had more than one right answer, depending on how you interpret it. Take question number 10, I have number 5 as my answer. It won't be good to give the same instructions over and over again if the students don't understand, you might have to use a different approach instead. Explain in a different way, demonstrate. But I also thought number 2 could be the correct answer. Have students confirm that they understand can be done in different ways. You can ask one student to explain what they're about to do, but if you only ask 'Do you understand', most students will say yes even if they don't, which is not a good way... There were a few more questions where I wasn't sure what answer was best because you can interpret it in different ways, but I think in real life, when managing a class you can come pretty far by using your common sense. I am a naturally calm and friendly person, so I think (and hope) I will be fine in the future.
