Teach English in BAjia Zhen - Yangjiang Shi
I've learnt about teaching special groups, there are several special group categories; beginners, individuals, young learners, business English, monolingual vs multilingual. Each category has sub categories. Things to bear in mind while teaching beginners is to keep it simple, to use visuals, to get the students talking by using questioning, pair work, and repetition. Being supportive and providing praise is vital with a beginner group. Teaching one on one has the advantage of only working on one level, the large potential disadvantage is that there may be very little dynamic with only two people. With one to one teaching, it is important to focus your teaching on the individual?s interests. It is important to constantly praise young learners as well as doing a lot of repetition (verbal drills, songs). It is also important to reduce TTT by using gesture and mime, it is also important to speak slowly and simply while teaching young learners. It is also really important not to use the students' native language while teaching YL. While Teaching Business English it is important to know that most of BE language is general English and to note that I am there to teach English not business. I learnt that BE students may have erratic attendance and that their motivation may vary. It is important to level test everyone in a BE course. I also learnt about the differences between teaching monolingual and multilingual students. Monolingual classes have the same L1 and multi lingual classes have different L1s.
