This unit was focused on course books for the classroom and the materials a teacher may use. The unit opens by describing the difference between authentic and created materials. Authentic materials can include newspapers, songs, poems amongst many others. Authentic materials are real which is more interesting and they can be geared to particular interests of students. Created materials can included crosswords, flashcards, and picture stories amongst others. Created materials are typically used as supplemental material for a course book. This unit finishes by reviewing the importance of a course book for the class and the advantages and disadvantages from using one.
