Unit 18 discusses modals, phrasal verbs, relative clauses, and passive voice. Modals are used to add meaning to the main verb in the sentence, some meanings include: obligation, possibility, permission, ability, and advice. In passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the sentence. Relative clauses are dependent clauses that modify nouns. And phrasal verbs multi-word verbs and include three types: intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable. One of the most intriguing things that I learned in this unit was the teaching idea for passive voice in which you cut up active and passive sentences that students then match together.
