Modal auxiliary verbs are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. They can be used to express differing degrees of formality as well as express ideas such as probability, permission, advice, etc. If a sentence is in the passive voice, it means that the object of an action is the subject of the sentence. The actor/doer of the action is less important or not present in the sentence at all. A relative cause is a clause that defines or identifies the noun that comes before it. A defining relative clause contains information that is essential for the sentence while a non-defining relative clause can be omitted without changing the meaning of the sentence.
