Finding a syllabus and textbooks that are targeted towards my students language ability has always been a challenge for me. With casual learners, I tend to encourage watching television shows with subtitles in their native language and picking 3 grammar structures and 5 new words they'd like to learn for the week. It's leaves my lessons more open-ended and has me constantly being able to work on the fly as opposed to a strict curriculum. Of course, this is geared more towards adult learners who want more freedom in their education. After today's chapter and some research based on the course's recommendations, I'd like to see how available those texts are in Japan.
