While grammar can be a difficult tool to teach and understand objectively, understanding the parts of speech is important for a teacher as much as it is for students. The students will almost always ask \"why\" grammar, or language in general, does something. To be a good resource for the students is being at least familiar enough with parts of speech to know what they're asking for and how to help them. Much of this was review for me, so the most helpful part of the unit was learning the difference between countable and uncountable nouns. Knowing which nouns use \"much\" vs \"many\" is a useful tool that's easy to learn and remember, and would help ESL learners, too.
