I have greatly benefitted from Unit 1. Here is what comes to mind: 1)The 9 qualities of the Teacher such as kindness and patience should be exercised throughout all of the roles. 2) The 9 Roles of the Teacher such as Facilitator and Organizer are related but distinctly unique and good judgement is required to know when and to what extent each should be implemented. 3)Teachers need to encourage their students to manifest the 6 attributes such as willingness to ask questions and desire to experiment. 4)Levels of learners must be established. Adults (18+) and Youths (13+), (8-12), and (7 and less) each have varying motivations, experience, nervousness, language awareness and tendencies. I enjoyed comparing the Council of Europe Language levels with our standards of Beginner, Elementary, Low/Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced. I will remember to ascertain individual student motivations at the outset (goals such as Travel, Career, Grades/Exams, business communication needs, living abroad, and general interest in languages). I will try to be a good teacher and therefore be able to say that I have good students!
