This unit covers the basics of a good teacher and learner and the relationship between the two, and, additionally, gives a brief overview of some of the hazards that both the teacher and learner will face in their relationship as they undertake the apprehension of a new language. The unit begins by summarizing the various roles a good teacher will play as part of the classroom experience before going on to describe the motivations and attributes of a good learner, and how learners experience the education process at different ages, along with a basic classification system used to identity the skill level of the learner. This unit helped me to understand, with concise definitions, the nature of teaching as a multiplicity of roles and skills and how the teacher must balance these roles to create an effective learning environment. It also helped me to understand the type of learner that, as a teacher, I would be seeking to shape. I feel that I have a better grasp of the education process as a teacher learner relationship from this unit, as well as a clear understanding of the basic goals of language education within the classroom.
