This unit covered good teaching habits and bad teaching habits. The two videos showed the habits of the teacher, his tools, how prepared he was, and how the students responded. I feel that this unit really drove home how much influence a teacher has on the classroom. The two videos clearly showed how small differences can make a large impact on student learning. The first video was very annoying to watch, even as a native English speaker. The teacher was very arrogant, grumpy, un-engaging, and boring. However, the second video was easy to watch. I appreciated that the teacher began the lesson by building repertoire with the class by introducing himself and asking the students to introduce themselves. This simple action broke the ice between the teacher and the students and allowed for a better learning atmosphere. Additionally, in the second video the teacher was very engaging and actively sought student-student and student-teacher interaction. Overall, I learned a lot from these videos and feel I will be able to not only incorporate many of the methods used in the second video, but also avoid many of the mistakes made in the first.
