Model verbs are highly common and useful verbs that go along with the main verb in the phrase to alter the tone or meaning of the sentence. They can be tricky for learners, not only because they have their own tense conjugations that are hard on their own and which can also be combined with the passive tense, leading to a simple vertiginous array of combinatory possibilities, but also because choosing the correct model verb is often a matter of etiquette and custom, depending on situation and audience. The differences between the sentences: \"You must feed the dog.\" vs \"Can you feed the dog?\" vs \"Will you feed the dog\" vs \"Would you please feed the dog\" is clear to any English speaker, but difficult to explain to students. Relative clauses can be divided into restrictive and non-restrictive clauses, depending on how necessary the phrase is in identifying the antecedent. When the information is not necessary, it should be set off by commas. When the information is necessary, it functions predominantly to answer the question: \"The one who/that...\" ex: My neighbor that I had lunch with last week passed away suddenly in the night.
