Unit 2 presents an introduction to some basic grammar concepts. The unit is divided into the different parts of the speech, which any teacher is likely to encounter during a typical lesson. The unit affirms how a good grammar foundation enhances the teacher?s skills and keeps up students? confidence. It is useful to explain how the English language works from a more theoretical point of view to help students to be more independent. The unit starts from the basic sentence (subject + verb + object) to lead to define the role of adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, preposition and conjunctions in the phrase. The purpose is to give a fist overview since the grammar rules are correct, but are likely to look simplified. It is actually important to have a first simple summary, in order to give students more grammar details when their knowledge of the language is deeper. Personally, I got a good source of comparison about some tricky grammar elements, which sometimes lead to mistake the students. They regard the use of articles and the differences between present participle - gerund and prepositions - conjunctions.
