The contrast between the two video lessons is striking. I almost couldn't bear to watch the entire first lesson through because of how painfully aggressive and ineffective I could see that it was. The tension, confusion, intimidation was palpable to me even through the screen and it brought back memories of my very first times of teaching when I was insecure and unsure of how to navigate the classroom well. I think the two videos side by side bring forth such an interesting mix of observations but the most poignant to me was that of the teacher's attitude. The teacher's attitude is prominent in the classroom and seeing the different between the two lessons taught on the same exact subject matter has only driven home even further the point that good teachers desire to see their students learn. A good teacher must also be empathetic and discerning to the surrounding environment. If I were a student of that first class, I would have been beyond terrified to say anything for fear of being wrong and for fear of the teacher himself. That is most definitely not what I want my classroom to look like, ever. Thank you for these demonstration videos.
