The final unit of this course focused on dealing with problems that teachers might encounter in the classroom. The text refers to various situations that might be difficult to deal with. First classes - especially classes in which students are meeting for the first time - large classes, and classes that are comprised of students of various levels require the teacher to use specific strategies to ensure that the lesson is smooth and efficient. The text provided ample examples of such strategies. Other problems, such as learners who are hesitant to participate, the usage of the native language in the classroom, and people who have difficulties with listening texts are also addressed. One thing that I learned from this unit is that a teacher may encounter a huge variety of problems in the classroom, depending on a number of factors. The number of students, the efficacy of the school's grouping system, and the personalities of the students themselves can contribute to difficulties in the classroom. In order to deal with such things, a teacher must anticipate that things may go poorly, and have a variety of activities to use when problems arise.
