3, 5, 11 Unit 18 is focused on modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. The chapter starts by talking about modal auxillary verbs. It gives the basic rules or uses of modals such as obligation, permission and ability. It then gives the most common modals such as may, might, must etc., It also talks about how to use those modals in present, future and past tenses. The chapter then talks about passive voice. Passive voice is when the focus of a sentence is the object of the verb, rather than a typical active subject. It gives formulas for applying the passive voice in different tenses and then gives usages, mistakes and teaching ideas. The last part of the chapter talks about relative clauses and phrasal verbs. Relatives clauses are groups of words inside a sentence that contain a subject and a verb. When indirect they provide additional information that is not useful to the meaning of the sentence, while direct clauses provide information that is necessary to the subject. Phrasal verbs are simply put multi word verbs, such as \"turn up.\" The chapter goes over the three main types, intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable.
