Teach English in Changping Yaozu XiAng - Wuzhou Shi
This unit provided me an overview of the best practices for classroom management, and broke down what each part of classroom management was. I reaffirmed my belief that eye contact is essential both inside the classroom and in daily life for showing confidence and building rapport. I learned that an open hand gesture is better than pointing at a student. I now know to say a student's name at the end of a question rather than the beginning, so that all students stay alert to the question. I also now know the importance of knowing all student names and encouraging equal participation from everyone, without forcing shy students to speak. I learned the pros and cons of different student groupings, as well as classroom arrangements. I now know the tips for reducing the amount of time I have my back turned to students, including incorporating the use of an overhead projector. I also learned when and how often to use TTT. I now know how to give effective instructions. I learned how to establish rapport between both myself and the students, as well as amongst the students themselves. Finally, I learned ways to prevent and respond to problem behaviour.
