There are nine parts of classroom management Eye contact, gesture and the voice: Eye contact: using eye contact is the way to make sure students are involved in the lesson, to ensure they can understand, to indicate who is speaking, to encourage and to indicate something is correct or incorrect. Teachers should avoid eye contact during any activity which is not teacher-centered. Gesture: we could use these gestures as follow: listen, repeat in chorus, stop, good, not right, nearly right, unusually idea, identifying a student. gesture should only be used if they are obvious in meaning or the meaning has already been established with the students. The voice: The teacher's voice should change naturally according to the circumstances Using student's name: Teacher should use the name of a student at the end of the question, not at the start. Grouping students: whole-class grouping: pros are good for students to interact with each other and easy to organization. Cons are reduce opportunities for students to speak and off-putting shy students. students working on their own: Pros are allow teachers to respond to individual differences of learning, less stressful for students and help students become more self-reliant. Cons is restrict possibilities for students interact with each other. pairwork : Pros are increase student talking time, allow teacher work with certain pairs, provide a safe environment for students to share ideas and thoughts, stronger students could help weaker students, remove burden from individual and quick to organize. Cons are some students rather speak to teachers than interact with students and students may find a not particularly like partner to work with. groupwork: Pros are increase talking time, personal problems less than in pairs, encourage students to cooperate and negotiate in English and students could choose their own level. Cons are sometimes are very noisy, take longer to organize and get started, exchange of ideas between group members can slow activities down and some group members may dominate. Classroom arrangement how to arrangement classroom actually depends on these facts: space available, type of chairs/tables, age of the students, nationality, student personality. Writing on the board: we should reduce times to turn our back to the students during board-work. There are some ways to reduce it. Be aware of arrangement seats and make sure the students know each other's name, at the beginning of the class should have an ice breaking activity, encourage students to help each other, don't let some students dominate the group, ask comments and options from students and remember to smile. Maintaining discipline: Reasons for problem behavior: family problem, low self-esteem, boredom, peer pressure, lack of respect for the teacher/other students and class size. Preventing problem behavior: teachers can stop problems if they are punctual, well prepared, consistent and fair, do not let personal feelings influence the treatment of students, never make threats that teacher cannot or are not prepared to carry out, return homework promptly, never lose your temper, respect students, make lesson interesting and varied, enthusiastic about teaching and establish rapport with students. Responding to problem behavior: act immediately, focus on the behavior not the student, change the classroom dynamic, keep calm, keep the problem student behind after class and reprimand in private, keep to the school's disciplinary code and don't make threats that you cannot enforce, use the knowledge of your colleagues, bear in mind that it's possible to go 'over the top' with rules.
