This unit deals with common trouble spots that appear when teaching language classes. There are suggestions for dealing with the first day of a new class. Teachers are encouraged not to rely on the book the first day and instead focus on establishing a rapport with the class and finding out more about the students. There is also a list of warming exercises to use at the beginnings of classes. The unit suggests ways of dealing with classes containing students of differing language levels or classes with a particularly large numbers of students. There are short discussions on students' tendency to use their native languages in the classroom and how to control it as well as on how to motivate reluctant students. Finally, some suggestions for dealing with students' difficulties with listening texts are given.
