This unit has clarified the 8 parts of speech and how to recognize them. The 8 parts of speech are, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions (interjections, which were not covered), prepositions, and adjectives. Nouns can be proper, common, countable, or uncountable. Sometimes articles (definite, or indefinite) precede nouns. Adjectives can be comparative or superlative (by adding er or est), Adverbs modify verbs or adjectives. Transitive verbs transfer the action onto an object, while intransitive verbs do not. conjunctions can join clauses or phrases in a sentence. Prepositions show position. Examples of prepositions are on, under, across, along, about, above, etc. Adjectives describe nouns, like Furry cat. Pronouns often replace a noun and can be reflexibe, personal, or possessive in nature.
