I was very excited for this unit as I am very interested in sociolinguistics, and I feel that it is so often glanced over or not given appreciation. Phonetics and linguistics are extremely important parts of speech as this unit covered. The minor stress of one word versus another gives a sentence a completely different meaning. Inflection is very useful in conversation, and it indicates when one person is finished speaking, which could get the students out of awkward situations if they were to start speaking when an interviewer or business associate overseas does not end with an upward question inflection.
