This unit looks at the different test used to assess a students abilities. As a teacher testing is usually required by the school, and can be useful for many reasons. The types of tests are: Placement tests - tests to ascertain the level of language for a student and to place them in the correct class Diagnoses tests - similar to placement tests, they are done at the start of the course to understand what the students know and what should be focused on during the course Progress tests - test to check what knowledge the student has taken in during the course Practice tests - to prepare students for an exam, practice tests or past exams can be taken External tests - these tests are run by external examining centres, which award certificates as proof of a students language level, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC etc.
