This unit covers conditional and reported speech, which was a bit complicated to comprehend even for the native English speaker. Conditional speech is essentially if/when statements that can be broken down into zero, first, second, third and mixed conditionals based on factual or hypothetical past or future situations. These conditionals can be easy to mix up for students as the first and second conditionals are similar. First conditional describes a real situation in the future that is possible or very likely once the condition has been satisfied. Second conditional describes a hypothetical situation that is presently untrue and unlikely to every be true. Reported speech can be confusing because the tense changes and there are specific rules in which to follow one tense with another tense or to remain the same.
