This unit covered the learning & development theories of the young learner. I particularly enjoyed the research on Piaget that the task sheet required. Although I learned this in my education classes, it was beneficial to go back and review these stages. Secondly, it was helpful to decipher between language acquisition and learning. Next, the reading and learning more in-depth about the maturation process (psycho-linguistic development) is crucial in effectively learning to teach students at their level. The list of likes/dislikes as well as their abilities is a handy chart to refer back to in the future. Lastly, breaking apart the productive (speaking/writing) and receptive (listening & reading) skills is useful in the lesson planning because it can assist a teacher to meet all areas and reach each child's learning style.
