Unit 6 concisely and effectively outlined everything I need to know about Past Tenses in order to teach these concepts. The English language is comprised of four past tenses, including Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect, and Past Perfect Continuous. These tenses were broken down into the Affirmative, Negative and Question forms, which made it easy to identify the correct formulas to construct past-tense sentences. Without breaking the tenses down in this way, I believe I would find it difficult to explain to a non-native English speaker the rationale for past tense sentence structure. I identified common usages for each of these tenses and common errors made by students. I found the teaching ideas for this unit to be especially helpful, especially the idea to have students retell a story backwards to practice the Past Perfect tense.
