In this unit, I learned mostly of the phonetic structure of the English language in regards to its manner of articulation and its location for articulation. This ranged from where the tongue is placed in the mouth during air flow and constriction to produce certain sounds, how one lip may be used in obstruction, how two lips may be used in obstruction, or how teeth can be used for obstruction to create different consonants. I also learned the importance of stress and intonation, something that is not readily heard by some, but can be taught through compare and contrasting measures that are directly correlated with rise and fall, fall and rise, or stagnant intonation and stresses. I also learned how to read words using only the phonetic alphabet and its charts, showing that in regards to pronunciation, IPA is more important than the traditional spelling of words.
