Unit 9 is about course books and additional lesson materials. It goes over authentic and created materials and when each should be used as well as advantages and disadvantages of each. It also gives many examples of materials which could be used in a lesson. The unit then talks about course books and more specifically it talks about advantages, disadvantages, the best use of a course book, options for course book use, and how to analyze a course book. Specifically I have learned that authentic materials are not ideal in many circumstances especially with beginning learners which is something that surprised me. However, I do believe that they may oftentimes be more interesting to students. For this reason I believe that perhaps created materials are better for lessons focusing on accuracy and authentic materials may be better for lessons focusing on fluency.
