There are many contributing factors in a student?s success or failure when learning the english language. A student?s overall education level will attribute to their learning capability. These immigrants have many typical channels through which they can achieve their success. Learning english will greatly increase their chances to succeed with not only employment but also in their quality of life. Unfortunately, the poverty that strikes their countries affects their educational history. Many of these immigrants have little or no history of speaking english nor have much education. This will hinder their study skills and classroom abilities. spanish speaking students will struggle with the pronunciation of er, b and v. These disadvantages can be overcome with the potential of their success depending on their english proficiency. All students will face adversities learning english as a foreign language regardless of their nationality or background. These students will vary in learning ability but these common problems must be acknowledged in the classroom and slowly worked through with their instructor. As a teacher prepares a lesson plan, he/she must keep in mind that there will be different levels of proficiency for each student, and to prepare to work at several different paces. In any lesson plan, as well, they should also have a keen eye in recognizing weaker students and stronger students in a classroom. A teacher who is aware of these issues and has the ability to work with different cultures and proficiency levels can be better prepared to handle them and give their student the gift of the english language.
