online tefl courses vs onsite TEFL courses For me taking an online tefl course was always the most practical and sensible option when choosing a TEFL course for my current situation. I feel that online TEFL courses offer learners far more in the way of flexibility, especially for those who don?t have time to partake in onsite TEFL courses. Whether that is due to work responsibilities or family commitments and perhaps even locale as well as travelling issues. In addition to this I feel that different learners find different forms of learning more appropriate for them, some learners find that a steady approach is better than a quicker intensive study method as in the onsite TEFL courses. Taking on online TEFL course at least allows the learner to work at his or her own pace and is less stressful as well as adaptable as it is ideal in so much as it allows for the learner to work to his or her own schedule. For me onsite TEFL courses are more beneficial for those who are less experienced at teaching english as a foreign language and also for teachers who are new to the ESL profession. Being a new teacher can be somewhat daunting in any field of teaching, and ESL teaching is no exception, so having the support of qualified mentors and also fellow peers gives onsite TEFL learners an initial all important step into becoming ESL competent. Whereas online TEFL courses are more suited to either those who do have some working knowledge of teaching or are already employed as ESL teachers, thus their teaching experience and time spent in the classroom gives an adequate amount of understanding to be able to take an online course as opposed to an onsite course for those who have little working knowledge of teaching. Having said that whether knowledgeable or experienced or not I do believe that the online TEFL courses do offer a more in-depth look into ESL teaching and cover a vast array of topics appropriate to nearly all situations in teaching english as a foreign language. Together with the rise and dominance of modern technology I believe that online TEFL courses have and will prove to be more and more desirable in terms of learning due mostly to the world we live in today and how people in general are obtaining and learning new information electronically. I truly believe that as a society demands for online learning are becoming greater and will soon become the norm. So having the option to study online TEFL courses gives learners initially what is expected by most anyway and also offers practicality in the learning process, as more people are living more hectic lives nowadays and for those who are already teaching they may be just too busy to even consider taking onsite TEFL courses. Although there are many arguments as to online or onsite courses and which offer learners the best in terms of studying, I feel that as it is an individual learning when it comes to TEFL courses rather unlike our ESL students who are often young and placed in groups for teaching purposes. Then if done right and online TEFL courses offer the learner enough in the way of ease of presentation and plenty of feedback as well as support throughout the course, then online TEFL courses have just as much to bestow. Personally when I am studying I find it far easier and more comfortable to work on an individual basis from the comfort of my own home and enjoy a quiet atmosphere which helps me focus in addition to being more in favour of coursework rather than observations and tests. Either way taking a TEFL course whether online or onsite gives ESL teachers the opportunity to expand their horizons in terms of both practical teaching approaches as well as the added bonus of becoming more qualified and thus open to more potential work prospects within the field of ESL teaching.
