This unit breaks down the productive skills of writing and speaking into their basic components and demonstrates how to foster these skills in a lesson. Through examples of a potential lesson plan, this unit provides ideas for activities that improve students' writing and speaking. Within each skill, the unit covers what difficulties students might have that teachers can be mindful of or even anticipate and prevent, such as discussing culturally sensitive issues in class that reduce students' desire to participate. In this unit, I learned that writing is often a neglected skill in EFL courses because it requires so much quiet time and is therefore relegated to homework.
