In Unit 14: Course Books and Lesson Materials, we learnt the benefits and disadvantages of course books, authentic and created materials. Course books are beneficial because they have already been tested on students and they can provide new teachers with a framework for their lesson. Authentic materials are potentially more interesting because they can be geared towards specific students. However, they are not graded to a certain English level and, therefore, teachers need to make sure their students will be able to understand the material. Created materials are created by the teacher for a certain level and can be graded, for example: jigsaw puzzles and word searches.
