Unit 13 focused on the pronunciation and phonology of the English language. It talked about how these two are often overlooked when teaching English to non-native speakers. It focused on Intonation, Stress, and the International Phonetic Alphabet. It looked at the different basic ways that intonation occurs in English, with the rise/fall, fall/rise, and flat styles of sentences convey different messages and emotions. Then Stress was covered as it occurs in single words, and how it looks in a fully formed sentence. The Phonetic Alphabet was then covered. This was new to me and took some time to work through. Teaching techniques were then discussed at the end of the unit.
