This unit shows the advantages and disadvantages of using a course book in your lessons. It is a good idea to use a course book, but still keep your lessons varied by using other materials or adding to the course book. There are authentic materials such as menus, songs, poems, magazines, and more. These are interesting and students feel confident using them. There are also created activities such as crossword puzzles, role-play activities, gap fill activities and many more games. These, unlike authentic materials, can be graded to the level of the students. When using a course book, the teacher should do extensive research to ensure that the book is right for the class.
