This unit focused on reading and listening skills. It focused on getting the students motivated and engaged with texts or audios. I agree that this is likely the most important part of teaching receptive skills, even to native speakers. Students need to learn that this can be fun and interesting and engaging then they will become confident as they see their skills grow more quickly. Obviously it would be great if students all had the same interests so that texts could be more easily catered to a class, but unfortunately this is where things become problematic. Know your students and try to change things up so that everyone is interested or motivated some of the time.
